Analogy (Ottoman Autopsies)
Description
The sophomore Advanced Placement World History class research the internal and external factors that led to the decline and fall of the 3 Gunpowder Empires: Ottoman, Safavid, Mughal. Learners apply knowledge from earlier units on the decline and collapse of empires, including the Roman Empire. Internal factors include inequitable economic burdens, political turmoil, social decay, and compromised morality; external factors include invasions and changes in the climate/environment. Learners apply the research to create medical analogies as if the empires were humans, drawn through an autopsy and written in a coroner's report. Lastly, learners film a television crime show trailer, imagining that their empire corpse is a character in a crime show. Viewing of the autopsies, reports, and trailers are presented along with a debrief activity where learners apply the causes to the course themes.
